Under the Authority of Macon Missionary Baptist Church

MCA is offering a home school program for the 2016-17 year.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
We at Macon Christian Academy (MCA) are excited about the possibility of having your family as part of our umbrella home school program! Children are truly a blessing from God, and we commend you for taking on the responsibility of educating your children at home! While home schooling can be a challenge, it is well worth the effort and, with the right home school option, you will succeed. We would like to thank you for considering MCA for your home schooling needs. We hope that you will pray about this important decision.

Beginning with the 2016/17 school year, MCA will offer the home school options described below.

OPTION 1 – TRADITIONAL HOME SCHOOL PROGRAM – Grades K-12

Summary of the Traditional Home School Program
The Traditional Home School Program is designed for families who are comfortable with a more independent home school arrangement. This option allows families to choose their own MCA-approved curriculum for each subject. Parents must be careful not to select any curriculum that conflicts with the beliefs of Macon Missionary Baptist Church. This is important because MCA operates under the authority of this church.
Parents will be responsible for reporting grades and for submitting assignments, tests, etc. that will serve as proof that the student has indeed earned the grades reported. This will be done once per grading period. Failure to provide adequate proof of grades reported will result in a zero or an incomplete for the course.
Under this option, MCA serves primarily as the record-keeper for the parents. In addition to grades, parents will also be expected to report attendance to MCA. We will then generate report cards, transcripts, etc. on the parents’ behalf.
Besides record-keeping services, students will also have the opportunity to participate in Bible lessons during the school week. Students will take these classes with MCA students and other home school students who are in the same grade as him/her. Students may also attend church services each week. Typically, services will be held at Macon Missionary Baptist Church. All MCA students are bused over to the church for services. Home school students are welcome to attend too. Finally, students may be involved in MCA field trips, parties, festivals, fundraisers, etc. Any student who completes their senior year in the umbrella program at MCA will receive a diploma from MCA and may participate in MCA’s graduation ceremony.
Cost – $100.00 per student (Curriculum not included.)
Note: The price for traditional homeschool is as follows: $100 for students who sign-up in August, $200 for those who sign-up in September, $300 for October, $400 for November, and $500 for December through May.

OPTION 2 – HOMESCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM – Grades 6-12
Summary of the Homeschool Enrichment Program
The Homeschool Enrichment Program is designed for parents who desire to home school their children, but would prefer structure and guidance from the school. Under this option, MCA will select the curriculum for each child. Most students will be placed on the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum. Students will attend classes from 8:00 until 3:00 on Mondays and Thursdays each week. While at MCA, students will be placed in a class with other students in the Homeschool Enrichment Program. A teacher will provide instruction and will also be responsible for testing and assigning grades to the student. The teacher will assign work for the student to complete on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when they are not at MCA. The parent will be responsible for ensuring that the student completes all assignments and attends class every Monday and Thursday.
Furthermore, parents will be responsible for keeping a record of attendance for the student on the days he/she is at home. MCA will provide report cards, transcripts, etc. on the parents’ behalf.
Like the Traditional Program, the Homeschool Enrichment Program also allows students to participate in Bible lessons during the school week. Students will take these classes with MCA students and other home school students who are in the same grade as him/her. Students will also attend church services during school once each week. Typically, services will be held at Macon Missionary Baptist Church. All MCA students are bused over to the church for services. Finally, students may be involved in MCA field trips, parties, festivals, fundraisers, etc.
Cost – $150.00 per month per student (This does not include curriculum. See fee schedule for curriculum fees.)
Note: Tuition may be paid weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or yearly. Parents paying for the entire year prior to school
starting will receive a discount.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Pre-Admittance Screening
Students/families applying with MCA will be subject to a pre-screening process. If the student is transferring from another school and has been assigned discipline at that school, the student must first complete all discipline procedures before transferring to MCA. If it is found that the student and/or family is in violation of MCA’s ethical standards, then the student’s application may not be accepted. The acceptance of the student’s application will be at the discretion of MCA. Please refer to MCA’s Policy Book for further information.
Record-Keeping Services
Both options include record-keeping services. This includes transcripts, report cards, attendance reports, driver’s license and permit forms, diploma, etc. Of course, some of these services will depend on parents providing accurate information (attendance information, grades, etc.) to MCA. Parents are expected to keep up with and report attendance information for each student.
Diplomas
Home school students who complete their senior year under an umbrella program at MCA will receive a diploma from MCA. He/she may also participate in the MCA graduation ceremony.

Testing
Testing is required for students in third grade, fifth grade, seventh grade, and ninth grade. Parents will be responsible for ordering and administering the test for their children. Parents can order the tests at the following website: http://www.shopchristianliberty.com/. Parents may administer either the paper or the online version. Test results need to be submitted to MCA so that they can be added to the student’s file. MCA’s home school coordinator can assist you with ordering the test if needed.
Cost – $25.00 per student (This is paid directly to the testing website. MCA does not collect this money.)
Meeting the Requirements
Any student who fails to meet the requirements set forth in the Home School Contract may be dismissed from the home school program at MCA’s discretion. Fees for the Traditional Program, with the exception of testing fees, must be paid at the time of registration. Fees will not be refunded if the student is dismissed due to failure to meet the requirements set forth in the contract.
Once again, we would like to thank you for your interest in our Home School Umbrella Programs. If you have any further questions, you can call MCA at 615-688-8131. We encourage you to pray regarding this decision.

Sincerely,
Sonya Wilson, Home School Coordinator
Wayne Deering, MCA Principal
